Happy weekend everyone — and Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends!🦃
. 🍂 Some of us may be riding into the sunset in full vacation mode. Laptops are left at the door until Monday, stretchy pants on all weekend and are free and ready for whatever festivities you may have planned. .
😓 Others may be dreading the weekend for one or more of the following reasons. – You may have over-committed yourself and have realized you over-booked yourself! – You may feel the pull of a few or many family obligations. – Spending time with people you love… or don’t love (painful).
.
Whatever your situation, always remember that *you own your capacity*. Which means you ultimately control how you show up to these commitments.
We can’t really control the event, but we can definitely control the *result* of any situation!
.
How? By controlling our reactions to any situation.
It’s that simple. By controlling our reactions, it can have a huge impact our emotional capacity, our mindset capacity and ultimately our physical capacity. .
🔔 And this is your capacity building challenge for this weekend — I am encouraging and supporting you to say NO to something this weekend or in the upcoming week.
.
Scary? Maybe.
.
But, here is how you can control the result and feel better about it!
.
When someone asks for a favour, or a quick minute of your time or a big task that you don’t want or can’t do, you can respect your capacity by reacting with one the following statements:
.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t have the capacity for that right now.”
.
“Thank you for considering me, but I don’t have the capacity for that right now.”
.
“Let me think about it as I’m not sure I have the capacity for that right now.”
.
Try these phrases this weekend. See if they change how you feel in that moment, and if they help you feel a stronger sense of ownership over your time and energy. 💪
.
Please let me know how this went! I would love to know how you felt and how the other person responded.
