My mother once said to me “Mel, your life looks like this decadent dessert-table — filled with mouth-watering desserts…” 🧁🧁🧁
”Oh wow…” I replied, “I like that! Thank you!”
Then she went on, “Well Mel, it seems that you have taken a bite out of every one of those delicious desserts. And I wonder, which one have you enjoyed the most?”
…I didn’t have an answer.
I didn’t really know which one I had enjoyed the most… I couldn’t possibly have enjoyed 1 more than the rest, right?
I had taken a bite out of ALL of life’s opportunities, and now I was feeling bloated & full.
I had tried to take advantage of EVERYthing that appeared before me and it left me over-committed and uncomfortable.
I thought long & hard about the patterns that led me here, and I created a framework that helps us deconstruct our commitment patterns and observe our indulgent behaviors — the EgoCake.
🎂Just like a cake, it has 5 layers. Let’s start from the bottom.
🍰The base layer is Options.
Options in abundance leads to stagnation.
Too many opportunities and not enough time can delay/stall our decision-making altogether.
🍰The next layer is Distraction, which is the death of productivity & creativity.
When we are distracted, we don’t do our best work. We look for other options and avoid reality.
This is also where Comparision-itis lives. 👀
🍰The 3rd layer is Resignment. This is the juiciest layer of this structure! Often difficult conversations & decisions are had in this stage.
This is where we get to resign from the things that are no longer serving us. When we do that, it allows us to be more aware of the opportunities that bring us joy.
🍰Moving up the Ego-cake, the next layer is the Awareness to release and achieve. Here we become prepared with different perspectives and a deep sense of self-awareness emerges. It will prepare you to commit to the options & opportunities that you are most aligned with.
🍰Once we do that, we then have the power to Commit, which is the 5th layer. To honour your values & decisions. This framework was built to help you achieve peace in decision-making and become more value-centric in your habits.
